Senior Software Engineer
New York or Remote

ENGINEERING TEAM AND PROCESSES

  • As a smaller company we have a very tight knit and flat engineering team where we make decisions together as a team and value everyone's input.
  • We are thoughtful in how we make engineering decisions and consider alternatives and pros and cons of different approaches rather than top-down decisions.
  • We use JIRA and work off 2-week sprints and quarterly OKRs but are not bureaucratic about it and adapt the process to serve our clients.
  • All code is expected to be reviewed before being committed and tested when appropriate. Merges are continuously deployed to a demo environment where users can see features and releases to production happen bi-weekly.
Responsibilities
  • You would get to build our analytics platform from scratch and define the architecture. Should it be a microservice architecture built using Rust+Actix framework? Should it be a monolith built using Elixir+Phoenix? Should it be a Serverless platform? Something else? These are all decisions that you can help us make and then go implement!
  • You can also help us build a reporting framework that lets our clients analyze their spend in any ad hoc manner that they might choose. Which front-end framework should we use to build this framework? Can we leverage WebAssembly to make it performant? Can it be made responsive to work on tablets in addition to laptops? What should the backend look like to support an ad hoc reporting framework?
  • Our reporting framework and analytics platform are only as good as the data we ingest. How do we define a data pipeline that properly normalizes data from multiple sources? Should we be using Apache Airflow or Uber's Cadence framework or something else entirely? How do we leverage Machine Learning to automate as much of the clean up logic as possible? How do we make improving the ML models a continuous process? How do we integrate a human in the middle for when manual intervention is necessary?
Experience & Qualifications
  • We are looking for a strong candidate who believes their technical skillset can help us solve the varied challenges we face. In addition to the above responsibilities, we work with data from various different providers and normalizing and ingesting it involves a combination of ML techniques and human intervention. We also have unique access to data that other companies do not and surfacing insights from that data and creating a user interface to communicate it in an intuitive fashion to our users is a challenge that we face.
Benefits
  • Competitive compensation, benefits, and upside potential
  • Ground floor opportunity to shape the strategic direction of an industry-disrupting business
  • Exposure to business leaders across finance, law, consulting, and technology
  • Sharp, motivated co-workers in a fun environment
